Alghe rosse
Le alghe rosse presentano varie tonalità di colore , tendenti sempre al rosso da brillante al cupo con tallo ramificato in forma arborescente. Molte specie sono caratterizzate da ramificazioni calcaree essendo il tallo impregnato di carbonato di calcio. Le alghe rosse sopportano facilmente condizioni di scarsa illuminazione e potremo quindi trovarle tanto in acque relativamente basse, quanto, e in maniera preponderante in acque profonde.
